* Include seaweed in your diet each day. You can take seaweed in capsule form, but preferably incorporate the seaweed into your diet as food. Try some of the milder-tasting seaweed, such as hizike and dulse. Kelp, though excellent, is strong-tasting and has a very fishy aftertaste. Seaweeds may be eaten with cooked grains, in soups, casseroles, and salads. They are incredibly high in trace minerals and vitamins and feed and nourish the endocrine glands. They are specifically recommended for the health of the thyroid gland, which plays a major role in regulating menstrual flow.

* Take a liquid-iron supplement each day. I generally recommend liquid Floradix Iron with herbs or other, similar preparations. To make your own liquid iron supplement, see Iron-Plus Syrup recipe. If the menorrhagia is severe, you may wish to double to dosage normally recommended. Floradix Iron and Herbs is available in most natural food/herb stores and is an excellent natural iron/mineral tonic. Liquid iron supplements help build the blood and restore depleted vitamin and mineral reserves in the body. After an excessive menstrual flow, it is not uncommon to feel completely worn out and drained. So it is important to rebuild the system with foods rich in iron, vitamins, and other minerals.

* Eat plenty of dark green leafy vegetables, root vegetables, high-quality protein foods, and whole grains. (Avoid red meat.) Eat for well-being and wholeness.

* Take Vita-Root Tea and Women's Power Capsules throughout the month. Both are excellent formulas for the liver and endocrine gland system.

* Avoid all refined foods, sweets, alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine. These will only exacerbate the problem you are trying to correct.

* Do not use dong quai or angelica during menstruation, as these herbs can promote bleeding.

* One week before menstruation begins drink 3 cups of Flood Gates Tea daily.

* When bleeding begins, continue drinking Flood Gates Tea frequently in small amounts (about ¬ cup every half hour). This tea can also be made into a tincture. If taking it in tincture form, take ¬ teaspoon every hour, or more frequently if needed.

As with the program for painful menstrual cycles, do not expect to see dramatic changes in the first month or two. Give the body a chance to progress slowly and steadily. Though this requires a committment to your personal well-being and the courage to make life-style changes, the process is generally empowering and the results long-lasting.
